The SPARTATHLON is a historic marathon that takes place at the end of September each year in Greece. He is one of the most difficult long distance road games worldwide and also very high interest because of the historical background. The Spartathlo revives the steps of Pheidippides, an ancient Athenian long distance runner, who in 490 BC, before the battle of Marathon, was sent to Sparta to ask for help in the war between the Greeks and the Persians.
